Filmen 'Wicked' er baseret på den populære Broadway-musical af samme navn og de kendte karakterer fra klassikeren Troldmanden fra Oz (1939).
Historien følger den unge Elphaba, der pga. sin grønne hud ofte bliver udstødt af andre. Da hun optages på Shiz University i Oz og og opdager sine ekstraordinære magiske evner, får hun muligheden for at ændre sit liv.
På universitetet møder Elphaba den populære og ambitiøse Glinda, som hun skal dele værelse med. Selvom de er vidt forskellige og starter fjendtligt ud, ender de med at udvikle et usædvanligt venskab.
Musicalen 'Wicked' er instrueret af Jon M. Chu (Crazy Rich Asians), og i hovedrollerne som Elphaba og Glinda ses henholdsvis Cynthia Erivo og Ariana Grande.
