Den danske folkekomedie 'Martha' handler om det gamle og rustne, men elsket fragtskib, Martha, der i mange år har sejlet i Det Græske Øhav.
Under et helt normalt sejlads møder besætningen en konkurrent. Det norske skib 'Harald', der er langt større og nyere end deres ellers skønne 'Martha'. Besætningen må nu begive sig ud på et risikabelt togt gennem et farligt stræde, for at nå en bestemt havn før den norske konkurrent.
Filmen er instrueret af Erik Balling, og har blandt andet Ove Sporgøe, Morten Grunwald og Poul Reichhardt på rollelisten.
