I filmen 'The Apprentice' følger vi Donald Trumps unge år, længe før han blev USA's mest kontroversielle præsident.
New York er på vej ind i 1980erne. Her møder den unge ambitiøse Donald Trump den skruppelløse advokat Roy Cohn, der ser en mulig stjerne i jetsetteren og bliver hans mentor.
Trump tager hurtigt Cohns ekstremt tvivlsomme metoder til sig og udvikler sig fra at være en usikker mand, der higer efter respekt, til at blive en af USA's mest kendte og magtfulde forretningsmænd.
Dramaet 'The Apprentice' er en fiktionsfilm, men bygger på biografier samt utallige artikler om Donald Trumps skandaløse liv.
Trump spilles af Sebastian Stan kendt fra Marvels Captain America: The Winter Soldier, mens 'Succession'-stjernen Jeremy Strong spiller advokaten Roy Cohn.
Filmen er instrueret af den dansk-iranske Ali Abbasi, der tidligere har haft stor succes med filmene Holy Spider og Grænse.
